- Take 1 teaspoon Sugar
- Get 2 tablespoons Mirin
- Prepare 2 tablespoons Soy Sauce
It is produced by cutting tofu into thin slices and deep frying it. Aburage is often used to wrap inarizushi (稲荷寿司), and is added to miso soup. Aburaage, also called Usuage, is thin deep fried tofu. It has a mild soy flavor and a spongy texture and absorbs seasonings well.
Steps to make Abura-age (Thin Fried Tofu) & Egg Rice Bowl:
- Wrap Abura-age with paper towel and heat in microwave for 30 seconds. Then press to remove excess oil. Cut into small pieces. *Note: If you don’t have the microwave, soak in hot water is alternative option.
- Place Water, Dashi Powder, Sugar, Mirin and Soy Sauce in a frying pan or saucepan, and bring the boil over medium high heat. Add sliced Spring Onion and Abura-age, cook until Spring Onion is soft.
- Pour over lightly whisked Eggs but DO NOT stir. Cover with a lid until the egg is softly cooked.
- Half fill a bowl with Freshly Cooked Rice and cover it with the Abura-age & Egg mixture. Sprinkle with Shichimi (Japanese Chilli Spice Mix) and enjoy.
You can open it up and make a pouch to use for Inarizushi or cut thinly to use for Miso soup, and it is also a main ingredient for Kitsune Udon. Abura Age (油揚げ) is a Japanese food product made from soybeans. Its abbreviated name is Aburage (あぶらげ). Blanch the abura-age fried tofu in boiling water for a minute to remove any excess oil. Drain and squeeze out any excess water.
